Pond Renovation: Toxicity and Application Rates By Species

Listed below are recommended application rates for Rotenone use. The application rates required to fully renovate a pond vary according to the fishes (bullheads, carps, bowfin, or gars) which are present. We have therefore outlined the application rates according to these species which are commonly found in ponds in Mississippi.

Bullheads, Carp, Bowfin, or Gar Are Not Present

5% Formulation (ppm) 0.5 - 1.0
Active Rotenone (ppm) 0.025 - 0.050
5% Liquid (gal/ac ft) 0.17 - 0.33
5% Powder (lb/ac ft) 1.4 - 2.7

Bullheads and/or Carp Are Present

5% Formulation (ppm) 1.0 - 2.0
Active Rotenone (ppm) 0.050 - 0.100
5% Liquid (gal/ac ft) 0.33 - 0.66
5% Powder (lb/ac ft) 2.7 - 5.4

Bowfin and Gar Are Present
