Location Summary
Growing conditions were extremely stressful during the summer of 1998 on Dulaney Farms. Plants emerged in all plots and developed a good stand. Drought conditions persisted for most of the season with less than 5 inches of rain recorded. Rainfall was 7 inches less than the 30-year average. From the middle of May until about the middle of September, day and night temperatures were unusually high. Day temperatures were 6 degrees above normal, and night temperatures were 4 degrees above normal. Plots were irrigated five times to supplement water needs. Insect pressure was light requiring no insecticide application.
