Crop Summary

Excess rain and saturated soil moisture until June 15 stunted the plants. Plants did not die and did not grow for 6 weeks after emergence. The weather then turned extremely hot and dry. Even with irrigation, the corn could not recuperate from the extreme heat. Natural rainfall helped corn more than irrigation because of the cloud cover and the cooling of temperatures. This area has been planted in corn for several years. The seed bed was prepared in rows last fall. A burn down was applied and the rows were rolled by a roller-packer prior to planting.
