Growing conditions were varied for the 1996 season. May rainfall was only 1.09 inches or 27% of normal compared to the average of 4.04 inches. Above average rainfall was experienced during the rest of the growing season. Rainfall was 152, 123, 123, 170, and 104% of normal for June, July, August, September, and October, respectively. One insecticide treatment (methyl parathion 0.5 lb ai/ac, applied by air on 3/23/96) was applied for bean leaf beetle. Virus diseases (believed to be associated with cooler than normal temperatures and higher than normal rainfall) were rated by Dr. Joe Fox.
