Location Summary

Entries in the Flood test were based on the highest average for each Maturity Group (MG) for 1994. Each entry had to have a yield no more than 2x the LSD than the highest yielding cultivars in the state average. The number of entries was limited to 1/3 of the total number of entries in a test. The test was planted in an area that had been leveled to a 0.10 foot/100 feet slope with zero side slope. The area had not been in crop production since 1992, when the leveling process started. Three components were included in the test: no irrigation, flood irrigation, and flood irrigation + Ridomil. The Ridomil treatment was included to determine if the "scald" that sometimes occurs in flood irrigated soybeans is due to Phytophthora root rot or Pythium damping-off. Ridomil 2E at 5 pints/acre is used for full season control of Phytophthora and Pythium. Irrigations were based on readings from Watermark sensors placed 6 and 12 inches deep in the test area. When the average of the readings was greater than 50 centibars, irrigation water was applied. Each flood was maintained for a period of 24 hours.
