Weather Summary

Soil conditions were very good at planting time for all soybean variety tests. Each test emerged and was well established prior to any large rainfall events, which greatly reduced the potential for seedling diseases. An irrigation attempt on June 29 was rained out. The first complete irrigation was made on July 8. The 12-day period following the first irrigation had a total of 7.71 inches of rain. The unusually wet July was followed by a near record dry August. Effects of weather extremes in July and August are reflected in yield averages. Nonirrigated yield averages are greater than irrigated for maturity group IV tests. Cultivars in these tests were in mid-to-late pod fill in August. Maturity Groups V, VI, and VII cultivars were in bloom-to-early pod fill in August and nonirrigated yields are much lower than irrigated yields.
