New Product For Cotton Seedling Disease

Rovral WG fungicide, a product of Rhone-Poulenc Ag Company, recently received a federal label for control of seedling disease of cotton. This product, applied as an in-furrow spray at planting, controls seedling damping-off and "soreshin" caused by Rhizoctonia solani. Rovral WG will not control damping-off and root rot seedling disease caused by species of Pythium.

Approved application rates for Rovral WG are as follows:

3.2 to 6.5 ozs. per 40 inch row
3.4 to 6.9 ozs. per 38 inch row
3.6 to 7.3 ozs. per 36 inch row
4.4 to 8.7 ozs. per 30 inch row

Rovral WG should be applied in a minimum of 5 gallons of water per acre as a spray to the open seed furrow. The higher rate of fungicide should be used if the field has a history of high seedling disease or if wet, cool weather conditions which favor development of cotton seedling disease are likely.

In fields where Pythium seedling disease could be a problem, Rovral WG should be mixed with an approved rate of Ridomil 2E or other available fungicides which are approved for Pythium control and in- furrow application.

Please be aware there are crop rotation restrictions for Rovral WG. The following crops may be rotated after harvest: beans (including soybeans), broccoli, carrots, Chinese mustard, cotton, dry bulb onions, garlic, lettuce, peanuts, potatoes, and rice.
