‘True Tales’ tells stories of the Extension Service

MISSISSIPPI STATE -- The life of staff members of the Mississippi State University Extension Service are often far from routine, a fact finally documented in 198 pages of humorous and insightful stories.

True Tales from the Mississippi State University Extension Service was compiled in 2008 and is available for purchase. The hardback book collects some of the most interesting and unusual encounters MSU Extension Service personnel have had with individuals who are sure their questions can be answered by someone from “State College.”

The Extension Service has been educating Mississippians and solving problems for almost 100 years. The individuals seeking help are sincere in taking their questions and problems to a source they are confident has a wealth of knowledge to help them.

Among the stories told in the book are ones about the agent asked to help a resident deal with what they were sure was the aftermath of a visit by an alien spacecraft; goats in briefs; a missing finger; “au naturel” homeowners; and the man who was relieved to learn that chemicals, rather than a shop vacuum, could effectively remove algae scum from his pond.

The book is available for $12 plus $4.50 shipping. It can be purchased online at http://msucares.com/truetales/ or by mail. Contact Dinah Jenkins at (662) 325-3006 for questions about the book or for instructions on how to purchase the book by mail.
