MSU invites students to explore horticulture

MISSISSIPPI STATE -- High school students can learn about horticulture and landscape careers in a unique summer seminar at Mississippi State University.

The 35th annual Horticulture Summer Seminar will begin the afternoon of June 13 and conclude June 15 on the MSU campus. Students ages 15 through 18 will learn about landscape architecture, floriculture, floral design, nursery management, turf, and vegetable and fruit production. Space is limited to 50 students, and the three-day seminar will cost $100, which will cover housing and meals. Some students will be sponsored by local garden clubs or businesses.

Bob Brzuszek, assistant Extension professor of landscape architecture at MSU, said the seminar will provide hands-on learning opportunities. Faculty from MSU's departments of plant and soil sciences and landscape architecture will conduct the learning programs.

The deadline for applications is June 1. For more information and applications contact Debbie Whitfield in MSU's Department of Landscape Architecture at (662) 325-3012 or by e-mail at debbiew@lalc.msstate.edu.
