Dairy seminar will address herd health
MISSISSIPPI STATE -- Mad cow disease will be one of the health concerns dairy producers will discuss during an in-depth seminar on herd diseases Feb. 19 in Tylertown.
In addition to bovine spongiform encephalopathy (mad cow disease), producers will learn about Johne's disease, the U.S. Animal Identification Program, biosecurity concerns and other issues related to dairy herd health.
Dr. Doug Hostetler, assistant professor at Mississippi State University's College of Veterinary Medicine, and Dr. Jim Watson, state veterinarian with the Mississippi Board of Animal Health, are organizing the evening seminar.
The Dairy Herd Update Seminar will begin at 7 p.m. in the Southwest Events Center on Highway 48 East in Tylertown. The evening will include a sponsored supper.
Dairy producers, employees, Extension agents, veterinarians and others involved in the dairy industry are encouraged to preregister by calling Walthall County Extension Director Lamar Adams at (601) 876-4021 or by e-mailing him at lamara@ext.msstate.edu.
