Spring Styles Reflect Natural Bright ColorsBy Allison Powe MISSISSIPPI STATE -- Springtime means flowers will bloom, butterflies will appear and, of course, new clothes will be worn. During this time of the year, everyone wants a fresh start, and an easy way to do this is with new spring clothing. Stephanie Wayne, extension textile and apparel clothing assistant at Mississippi State University, said this season's styles will reflect nature's own bright spring colors. "This spring we will see many of the citrus colors like yellows, oranges and greens," Wayne said. "Blues ranging from aqua to sapphire also will be popular. Neutral colors are always stylish because they're so versatile." Wayne said two-piece outfits featuring either a jacket and skirt or a jacket and slacks will be widely seen this season. Tunics with strait pants and jumpsuits will be among the other popular fashions selling this spring. "Separates are excellent purchases because they will take you from day to evening. A jacket and skirt is an ideal outfit for a dinner date after work," Wayne said. "We'll still see a lot of trousers, button front shirts and straight skirts. These items are easy to mix and match." Wayne said one of the biggest fads is likely to be close-fitting satin shirts in solids or prints. "If you like these satin shirts, buy one or two, but don't stock up because they may not be in style next year," Wayne said. The clothing specialist suggested outlet stores for bargains, but select quality items when buying styles that will be wearable for a long time. "Even though high quality items may be more expensive, they are likely to be a better deal in the long run," she said. Some durable fabrics for spring include silk, linen, light wools, crape and chiffon, as well as silk and linen blends. "When shopping, try on styles and colors to be sure they are flattering. If you like a certain color, but can't wear it next to your face, buy a belt or a scarf in that color to accessorize," Wayne said. Other fashions this season will be military style jackets and hip length jackets with matching trousers. Jewelry this season will feature butterflies and other insects. "Spring and summer will be very exciting shopping times because of the wide variety of styles available. Shoppers will have many options to choose from," she said. Released:
