Will "La Nina" cause a drought?
Farmweek - July 30, 2010
In our feature segment today, water temperatures in the pacific ocean could bring the United States, dry, if not drought conditions. Known as "La Nina," its main feature is a broad region of "colder than average water" centered along the equator in the Pacific Ocean. The National Weather Service says during "La Nina" drier than normal conditions typically occur in the Central Plains in the fall and in the Southeast in the winter. Is dry weather a given during "La Nina?" Market-to-market's Laurel Bower Burgmaier filed this report in late June and she says it's a matter of opinion.
