In the feature segment today, shipping by railroad isn't usually seen as being the preferred method for delivering perishable items such as fresh vegetables.
That didn't stop Railex from going again conventional wisdom and starting the "Fresh Express."  It's the nation's first and only nonstop rail system for perishables.
Railex guarantees cross-country delivery from California and Washington to New York in five days or less.  The railcars themselves are refrigerated and computer-controlled.
They can be monitored at any point on their journey.
