Farmweek - October 16, 2009
Lamar County, Mississippi (Purvis).  "Go Gardens" are an innovative and successful way to interest and teach conservation to young people.  The Lamar County Soil and Water Conservation District has provided Go Gardens to every county school with first graders. Teachers report the gardens give their students a sense of ownership and an excitement to learn.  Go Gardens can be used to teach anything from vocabulary to math to art.

Go Gardens are also finding a great reception at nursing homes and assisted-living facilties.  It allows the residents to garden regardless of their mobility.
