Sale of "3 Centuries" (Balster Antique Auction)

"Balster's" of Scotch Grove, Iowa, sold out in September 2011 after 137 years in business.  The sale contained items from as far back as the 1800's.  The auction attracted people from many states because the inventory included many items considered antiques today. Market to Market's Laurel Bower Burgmaier reports.

Native trees making a difference at home and in school

Lamar County, Mississippi.
Mississippi’s Arbor Day happens each year on the second Friday in February. Many soil and water conservation districts in Mississippi are conducting programs to encourage homeowners to plant “native trees,” trees indigenous to the state. In Lamar County, the virtues of native trees are even being learned by the young. Farmweek's Artis Ford reports.

Mississippi MarketMaker getting agricultural entrepreneurs noticed

- Mississippi MarketMaker is a free, web-based marketing tool available to small agricultural entrepreneurs and growers. It helps expose their products and services to the state, the nation and the world. It doesn’t require extensive computer skills to use it.
- MarketMaker is available in 16 states. It is sponsored in Mississippi by the Mississippi State University Extension Service. The safe, user-friendly site acts as one central source for consumers/other businesses to find anything from produce to agrotourism.
