Farmweek is Mississippi's oldest and only locally-produced
agricultural television news show. It is produced by the Office of Agricultural Communications for the Mississippi State University Extension Service.   Our first show aired October 3, 1977.

The studio portion of the show is produced at the University Television
Center
of Mississippi State University.

Farmweek is broadcast statewide 52 weeks a year on the Mississippi Public Broadcasting Radio and Television and RFD-TV (nationwide satellite network).

An independent telephone survey (August 2000) found 135,000
Mississippi adults (ages 18+) watch Farmweek two (2) or more times a month.

Farmweek is an agricultural news show devoted to presenting a
variety of educational information to the public. This information is
not readily available through the commercial media. Farmweek keeps the
state's agricultural community up-to-date on government agricultural
programs, changes in U.S. farm policy and general agricultural news.

It allows Mississippi State University specialists, scientists
and other agencies to present useful information and land management
advice directly to viewers. This is usually done by showing viewers
what other Mississippi residents have accomplished. Effectiveness is
demonstrated by the fact viewers often contact Farmweek or the
individuals involved in a story to find out how they can implement the
practice or program that was demonstrated.
