CONSERVATION
FUNDING CONCERNS - The U.S. Senate passes its agricultural appropriations
bill for the current fiscal year. Senator Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) accuses
President Bush of wanting to kill the Conservation Security Program before
it even starts this fiscal year. Harkin wants Mr. Bush to pressure the
U.S. House of Representatives into restoring CSP funding in its ag. appropriations
bill. Senator Charles Grassley R-Iowa) and Senator Byron Dorgan (D-North
Dakota) succeed in inserting a provision that lowers the EQIP limit from
$450,000 to $300,000. |
