BOLL WEEVIL
VOTE IS UNDERWAY - Blake Layton of Mississippi State University
Extension Service says boll weevils could infest the area again in
2-3 years if the area does not enter the maintenance phase of the
eradication program. It could cost farmers $24-$54 per acre, per year
to control them on their own. The vote in the north and central Mississippi
Delta will end Friday, August 15. Two hurdles must be cleared for
the referendums to pass, 50% of the voters must vote and 2/3rds must
vote yes.
