1:17 Video Pkg Ford/MTM FEDERAL COURT STAYS NATIONAL BEEF CHECKOFF RULING - Stays June 21st court ruling that the mandatory checkoff was unconstitutional and should stop. The stay will remain in effect while the U.S. Department of Agriculture is appealing the ruling.
    Ford MORE ON THE CHECKOFF - If the South Dakota case reaches the U.S. Supreme Court, it will be one of several times the Supreme Court has ruled on the beef checkoff. As late as last November, the U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear a Kansas cattleman's suit which also challenged the checkoff's constitutionality.
    Ford NATIONAL NEWS HEADLINES - The U.S. Department of Agriculture settled a discrimination suit Friday with the Black Farmers and Agriculturists Association. Farm groups urge two House committee chairman to make no payment limit changes in the new 2002 Farm Bill. USDA makes an additional $275 million available for EQIP (The Environmental Quality Incentives Program).
