Mississippi growers will produce over a quarter of a million poinsettias this year for your holiday enjoyment. The traditional colors are just as pretty as ever, but now there’s something new.
Would you believe painted poinsettias? Your first thoughts may be “Oh No” or “YUK,” but take a look at the colors. They’re amazing.
Lori Hitchcock of Natchez Trace Greenhouses in Kosciusko, is one of several growers who is giving customers a new poinsettia option. She has decided to paint this enduring pink poinsettia a brilliant sunburst orange. Each leaf, or colorful bract, is painted. Once the painting is completed, she finishes the project by adding some festive glitter. The result is a unique poinsettia that will brighten holiday decorations.
If you’re looking for another poinsettia option, try poinsettias grown on a bed of frost.
This summer, I showed you the hot new plant called Diamond Frost Euphorbia. It’s sun-tolerant and tough as nails. I also told you it was a relative of the poinsettia and indeed makes a superb companion. Here, the red prestige poinsettia is growing with Diamond Frost. This creates an incredible holiday look.
Whether you choose a painted poinsettia, one grown with Diamond Frost, or a traditional color, we at Southern Gardening hope you have a Merry Christmas and thanks for watching.
