Risk Management in Mississippi
Catastrophic or systemic risks are a major challenge for the farm and food system and rural communities. Price volatility, and natural disasters combine with a rapidly evolving risk management environment to compound traditional challenges. Portfolio trade-offs, optimal input and output decisions, and the use of instruments such as futures and insurance are among the contemporary tools developing to help Mississippi agricultural producers.
Changes in the risk environment and tools available to manage risk have resulted in an increased need for risk management skills among farmers and ranchers. Mississippi State University is committed to helping address decision-making under risk.
