The Mississippi BCIA Spring 2009 Bull Sale was held at the Hinds Community College sales facility in Raymond, Mississippi on March 5, 2009. The depth of quality in the sale offering highlighted the continued emphasis on quality seedstock by breeders of MBCIA bulls. We look forward to the next MBCIA bull sale in March 2010.

Hinds Community College Sales Facility, Raymond, MS

The Mississippi Beef Cattle Improvement Association wrapped up its 2nd Annual Spring Bull Sale on March 5, 2009 in conjunction with the Hinds Community College Bull Test Sale. The MBCIA Spring Sale featured 27 performance-backed bulls from breeders across the state. Thank you to all of the consignors and buyers for supporting the Spring 2009 Mississippi BCIA Bull Sale.

The top-selling lot was This Rito S155 of 1559 Pred, an Angus bull. This Rito S155 of 1559 Pred was consigned by Cain Cattle Company of Wiggins, Mississippi and sold for $2,500. Other breeders marketing bulls in the MBCIA sale included Harvey Farms, Ingram Cattle Company, Ingram Livestock Farm, Kiani Angus, Loveless Homeplace Angus, McGee Cattle Company, Southern Shine Pastures, and Webb Farms. Sale receipts on twenty-seven bulls totaled $48,425 for a sale average price of $1,794.

The objective of the Mississippi BCIA Bull Sale program is to encourage production and identification of genetically superior bulls by purebred breeders and to encourage the purchase and use of these bulls by commercial producers. Bulls offered through this sale have passed a breeding soundness exam, met minimum growth and scrotal circumference requirements, and are backed with extensive performance information. The MBCIA Fall Bull Sale is held on the second Thursday in November, while the Spring Bull Sale is held in conjunction with the Hinds Community College Bull Test sale on the first Thursday in March.
