Mississippi Beef Cattle Production

Beef production is a significant component of Mississippi agriculture. The total value of production of cattle and calves in Mississippi approached $180 million in 2008, ranking seventh among the state’s agricultural commodities. Total cattle inventory in Mississippi on January 1, 2009 was 960,000 head including 491,000 head of beef cows and 83,000 head of beef cow replacements. Stocker cattle production is also very prominent with 450,000 head of stocker cattle residing in the state annually. Beef cattle operations in Mississippi currently total approximately 18,500 operations.

Mississippi Master Cattle Producer Online Training

The Mississippi Master Cattle Producer Program is a comprehensive training in major beef cattle production topic areas. An Internet-based self-study version of the Mississippi Master Cattle Producer Program is currently being developed for online completion. The self-study course is open to any producer interested in learning more at their own pace about improving production on their beef cattle operations.

The Master Cattle Producer program consists of training modules in eight beef cattle production subject areas. As updated training modules become available online, links to these modules will be posted below. Please check back often for new training modules. Beef cattle producers enrolled in the Master Cattle Producer program will complete about 20 hours of training which includes the following:
