Feed the birds
Garden Tips Newsletter - February 25, 2002

If you have been feeding your birds all winter, continue to do so, but start thinking about planting some trees and shrubs that will help our feathery friends find food when you are not around. While fall is the best time to plant trees and shrubs, you can still add some to your landscape in late winter (although don't plant this week as the weather reports are calling for below-freezing temperatures).

Some plants that birds enjoy are crabapple, hawthorn, hollies, dogwoods, and pyracantha. Not only will these plants enhance your landscape, they may help keep birds away from your "real" fruit trees.
