Where have all the honey bees gone?
Populations of honey bees in recent years have been devastated due to two imported parasitic mites that attack honey bees. Honey bee tracheal mites were first found in the United States in 1984 and varroa mites were first found in 1987. Both species of mites have killed thousands of colonies and feral honey bee populations have been greatly reduced in most geographical areas.
