Hand Washing

Why Should You Wash Your Hands?

a.) To practice being clean.
b.) To not make other people and yourself sick from disease causing germs on your hands.
c.) To not get germs and bacteria in food that cause diseases such as Hepatitis A and E. coli 0157:H7.



When to wash your hands

• After eating
• After using the restroom
• After smoking
• After sneezing or blowing your nose
• After touching your hair
• After changing a diaper
• After feeding a baby or child
• After handling raw meat
• Before preparing any food



Proper Handwashing

A WORD ABOUT HAND SANITIZERS….

• Waterless hand cleaners should never be used in place of proper handwashing.
• Waterless hand cleaners should be used only after proper hand washing.
• Hands should be completely dry before handling food.


1. Wet your hands with hot running water.


2. Apply soap.


3. Rub your hands together for at least 20 seconds (sing the Happy Birthday song, it is about 20 seconds long).


4. Clean under your fingernails and between your fingers.


5. Rinse your hands thoroughly under running water.


6. Dry your hands, use single-use paper towels.

Paper Towels

• You can use regular paper towels like the ones shown below.
• These paper towels can be found at most local discount stores.
