· Cover all electrical outlets with clear childproof plastic covers. ·These can be purchased at many stores. ·Put foam padding around hard sharp edges such as fireplace hearths, sharp corners in the home or on furniture where children could fall and bang their heads. ·Replace all toys with sharp edges, and toys that are choking hazards (e.g. small button eyes, strings, ribbons, etc.) ·Keep small items like coins, nails, buttons, and keys out of childrens reach. ·Install safety gates (not accordion-style) on top and bottom of stairs. · Never leave a child alone on a table, changing table, or bed. Always have one hand on a child when he or she is on a high surface. · Keep all houseplants out of childrens reach. · Alcoholic drinks and rubbing alcohol should be treated like a poison and kept locked away and out of childrens reach. · Do not leave unfinished alcoholic drinks where children can reach them. · Cover all trash cans. Young children are likely to go through the trash and find dangerous items like glass, empty cans, etc. · Wrap curtain cords, blind cords, etc. up out of childrens reach. Children can strangle themselves on these cords. · Be sure curtains are tightly fastened so children cannot pull them down or pull curtain rods onto their heads. · Place childproof screens around heaters, fireplaces, and woodstoves. |
