To help children become more aware of their health and the foods they eat; it is a good idea to teach your child about food and making good food choices using the Food Guide Pyramid. With good eating habits, your child will carry this idea on for the rest of their life.
It is best to choose a specific time each morning for breakfast for you and your child. It is good to eat at the same time every day so that you do not vary the schedule of when you are hungry or not. Give your child a variety and choice of breakfast foods in the morning so that they do not get burned out on any one certain food. Many different foods are good choices at breakfast, including cereal, omelets, French toast, pancakes, waffles, fruit, meat products, yogurt, and oatmeal. Make sure to include milk or juice in the morning to supply the vitamins and minerals they contain.
Try not to give children any foods that are high in sugar at breakfast such as doughnuts, soft drinks, or pastries. These foods will give children a quick burst of energy that will not last all day, and will increase the chance of cavities.
