Making Puppets

Making puppets is a fun activity for children of all ages. Many puppets can be made from inexpensive and easy-to-find items. Try some of these ideas and have fun!

l Sponge Puppets- Purchase a dishwashing sponge brush at a discount store. Draw a face on a circle and securely attach it to the sponge brush. Tie yarn bows on the ends of the sponge brush.

l Sock Puppets- Collect an assortment of clean socks of different colors. Use yarn, felt, or fabric markers to decorate your puppet. Create puppets that look like animals or people. Add the puppets to a dramatic or make-believe area in your home. Encourage the children to use the puppets to act out favorite stories.

l Spoon Puppets- Collect an assortment of plastic cooking spoons. Use non-toxic paint or markers to draw facial features and hair on the spoons. Attach yarn for hair.

l Paper Bag Puppets- Create simple paper bags puppets from brown paper lunch bags. Draw faces and clothes with crayons or markers.
