Home & Family: Family & Consumer EducationThe Family & Consumer Education program of the Cooperative Extension Service reached more than 727,100 Mississippians through educational meetings, seminars, workshops, and individual contacts. Family & Consumer Education programs help families and individuals meet their basic needs and make wise choices that are important to a successful, healthy, responsible, and productive life. County, area and state professionals provide educational programs that focus on family development, financial management, parenting, home-based businesses, nutrition, health, food safety, housing, clothing, and consumer education. Programs are based on local needs, new research, and technical information. Vision The Family & Consumer Education program provides quality, community-based, and informal education for families by presenting programs that address the most pressing issues facing Mississippi families and communities. Mission Through preventive education, the Family & Consumer Education program helps families and individuals improve their lives through an educational process that uses scientific information to address issues and needs. The Family & Consumer Education program works with agencies and organizations in collaborative efforts to address issues that affect families. The program is considered an "education broker" for agencies, organizations, volunteers, professionals, and decision-makers so they might better serve Mississippi families.
