The Office of Nutrition Education
In 2002, the Mississippi State University-Extension Service (MSU-ES) combined their two federal nutrition education programs, the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) and the Food Stamp Family Nutrition Program (FNP), into the Office of Nutrition Education (ONE). With the USDA’s emphasis on seamless nutrition education via federally supported programs, MSU-ES created one nutrition education program structured to meet the needs of Mississippians, and that adheres to specified guidelines of the funding agencies. The EFNEP and FNP programs both teach nutrition education: EFNEP serves primarily an audience of low-income families with children and low-income pregnant women while the qualifying designation for FNP audiences is that they be limited resource individuals eligible for food stamps. |
