KEY COMPONENTS OF HEALTH STRATEGIC
PLANNING MODELS
An overview of health
strategic planning models conducted by the Decisions for Health Management
Team revealed a number of basic principles or key components common to
all. Not surprisingly, these key components represent many of the elements
essential to successful community development and community empowerment
programs regardless of their subject area focus.
Key Components Included:
- Preconditions
- Driven by local
recognition and definition of health care issues
- Community willingness/readiness
to take an active role regarding its health care system
- Individual
leaders and members of the community willingness/readiness to be
engaged in the process of local health care system reform
- Participation
by invitation only - implies a degree of readiness to be involved
that is recognized by the organizers of the strategic planning process
- Endorsement
by the community power structure
- Process Components

organizational development activities
- Flexible definition

evolving strategic planning methodologies
