Scott County is conveniently located in Central Mississippi. It is bordered by counties on the north by Leake, east by Rankin, west by Newton, and the south by Smith. Forest, the county seat, is within a one hour drive east of Jackson on Interstate 20.

The total land base in Scott county is 389,800 acres. Eighty one percent (316,700 acres) is forest land. Fifty five percent of this land is owned by private landowners. The remaining 45% consists of industry land and national forest land. The Bienville National Forest is located primarily in Scott county. With the majority of county land in forest land it is no doubt that forestry is an important commodity to this county.
