Adams County is located on the bluffs of the Mississippi River in Southwest Mississippi. It is bordered on the north by Jefferson County, on the east by Franklin County, on the south by Wilkinson County, and on the west by the Mississippi River and Louisiana. Natchez, Mississippi's first state capital, serves as the county seat today. The city and county are rich in history. including Jefferson College the site of Mississippi's Statehood Convention in 1817.
The total land base in Adams County is 294,600 acres and 71% of that is forestland. Private landowners own 80% of this forestland. The remaining 20% is divided between forest industry (8%) and public land (12%). Adams County is home to a portion of the Homochitto National Forest.
