Soybean Research
Mississippi soybean producers planted 1.46 million acres in 2007. Nearly 70 percent of the state's soybeans were grown in the Delta region.
Soybean production in the Delta had a $500 million economic impact on Mississippi's
economy in 2007. The average yield for soybeans harvested in the Delta
was 45.5 bushels per acre. The state average was 41 bushels per acre and
the national average was 41.2 bushels.
Soybeans in Mississippi typically are planted between March 1 and June 15. The optimal planting time is from April 5 to April 20. Producers harvest soybeans between September 15 and November 30.
Mississippi soybean acreage in 2006 was 1.67 million acres. The state's highest acreage was in 1979 with 4.2 million, and its lowest was in 2001 with 1.16 million acres.
