Mississippi producers planted 190,000 acres of rice in 2007. The 2006 economic impact of rice production on the state was over $212 million. Approximately 99 percent of the state's rice is produced in the Delta region of Mississippi. The average yield for Mississippi's rice crop in 2006 was 7,000 pounds per acre. The national average was 6,868 pounds per acre in 2006.

31. Mississippi's rice is usually harvested from August 15 to October 15.
The state's largest rice acreage was in 1981 with 340 thousand acres. Mississippi's smallest rice acreage was in 1949 with 5 thousand acres. Producers planted 265,000 acres of rice in 2005.
