Weeds
Why is sicklepod such a problem weed?
Sicklepod [Senna obtusifolia (L.) Irwin & Barneby] has long been considered a troublesome weed in southern soybean. This weed germinates soon after soybean is planted and continues to germinate until mid-season. Sicklepod produces an abundant supply of seed that are harvested with soybean as a contaminant or that shatter to reinfest the field. Since sicklepod is a legume, like soybean, there has not been an effective safe herbicide for management until recently. See Information Sheet 1024, Soybean - Management Strategies for Sicklepod for suggestions.
