Weeds in Mississippi
How can I control ivy?
Ground ivy (Glechoma hederacea L.) is a vine that creeps along the soil surface, developing roots at each node. This perennial weedy member of the mint family has a square, hairy stem, and is more often seen in shaded areas rather than full sunlight.
Use a mixture of 2,4-D, dicamba, and MCPA (or MCPP) for control. Make sure the mix you select is labeled for the type turf in your yard. St. Augustinegrass and centipedegrass have less tolerance for the herbicides in these mixtures than bermudagrass and zoysiagrass. Therefore, the ratios of the three herbicides in mixtures labeled for St. Augustinegrass or centipedegrass or the application rates may be less on the less tolerant turfs. Multiple applications will be necessary for control. Image provides fair control of ground ivy.
