Glyphosate Resistance Management
Benchmark Study
Mississippi State University joined forces with five other universities to participate in the Benchmark Study. The study, funded by the Monsanto Company, examines grower weed management practices. The results are used to develop targeted programs to improve the sustainability of weed control in Roundup Ready® cropping systems.
The research team surveyed approximately 1,200 growers from six states planting Roundup Ready® corn, soybean and cotton. The survey evaluated tillage practices, herbicide use patterns and grower perceptions of weed issues. The results of the survey were recently published as a series of peer reviewed scientific papers in the Journal of Weed Technology. The Summary Reports are now available:

The Benchmark Study has continued into a fourth year. The team randomly selected 150 growers in six states to participate in on-farm trials comparing the growers’ current herbicide practices with those recommended by the research team. The university weed scientists are evaluating whether the recommended herbicide program is more effective than the growers’ standard practices. These field studies will be published in late 2009.
