Soybean Production in Mississippi

What soil temperatures are required for germination?

Soybean seeds germinate and emerge faster with soil temperatures of 68º to 86 º F. In addition, they must inhibit 50 to 55 percent seed moisture for the germination process to begin. Given this fact, good seed-to-soil contact is essential. Under the noted conditions, soybean seedlings should emerge in 5 to 7 days. Soil temperatures of 55º F allow gemination to begin, but emergence will be slow. Once temperatures reach 65º F, emergence should be fairly rapid.

High soil temperatures (temperatures above 94º F) can have a tremendous impact on germination.
