Soybean Rust
Rust was

George County. Click

confirmed case Mississippi's first
confirmed case of Asian Soybean Rust has been found in a
sentinel plot in George County. The samples were taken on
July 13, 2005. One leaf was found positive of the 15
specimens tested. Due to the stage of the crop and the extremely
low level of the disease, administrators at the site were
not deeply concerned. The situation is very similar in
Alabama, Georgia and Florida. The sentinel plot, and others in the state,
will be monitored by a surveillance team from MSU and the
USDA. Even though this is the first positive find in
the state, growers are urged to look at the stage of the
crop, yield potential, and consider using fungicides for
other diseases in addition to rust.
