Soybean Production in Mississippi

What are some steps that can help ensure adequate soybean emergence?

  • Start with good seed:
    • At least 80% germination
    • Seed pure and free from contamination
  • Plant to achieve a final plant population of 75,000 to 125,000 plants per acre.
  • Proper planter calibration. Remember, seeding rate should be based off of seed per acre or seed per foot of row and not pounds of seed per acre.
  • Plant into a proper seedbed:
    • Moist
    • Warm (68° to 86° F)
    • Firm
    • Plant seed 1 to 2 inches deep, taking moisture into consideration.
