Sorghum Production in Mississippi
What are some of the good grain sorghum hybrids?
Grain sorghum hybrid selection should be based primarily upon grain yield, stalk strength, and disease resistance. Mississippi State conducted a grain sorghum hybrid trial for the first time in over a decade last year at Stoneville. Arkansas and Louisiana State also conduct sorghum trials. Hybrids producing consistently superior dryland yields in these university trials are listed below:
HYBRID PROFILES:

Dyna Gro 751B: Tall height, good stalk strength, semi-compact head type
FFR322: Medium height, semi-compact head type
Garst 5515: Medium-short height, semi-open head type, average stalk strength
Golden Acres 444E: Medium-short height, good stalk strength, semi-open head type
Pioneer 83G66: Medium height, average stalk strength, semi-compact head type, best suited for light textured soil types, resistant to anthracnose
