High Tunnel Crop Production Project

About Us

EvansDr. Evans is the Project Director. He is responsible for timely and proper completion of activities related to the project objectives. He works with administrative units at Mississippi State and USDA to assure compliance with the awards' requirements. He oversees the research budget of the award. He is in charge of developing managing the vegetable crops, supervising the intermittent labor and research technician. He works with Drs. Gu and Bi to assess research project progress and adjust protocols or activities if needed to meet the objectives. He works with grower cooperators to assure project management and data collection are compatible with project objectives. He coordinates activities among personnel and locations. Dr, Evans works with Dr. Gu to oversee the Web camera and live information exchange. Dr. Evans is responsible for coordinating final tunnel selection and assuring proper installation and preparations for production. Dr. Evans works with Dr Gu and others to carry out field days at Crystal Springs and grower locations. Dr. Evans works with Dr. Bi to generate refereed publications.

 

GuDr. Mengmeng Gu is a co-PI, and the local contact for the grower cooperators. She trains an M.S. student. Dr. Gu is responsible for coordinating all extension activities, and for developing all horticulture extension materials. She oversees the overall extension budget of the award. She works with Dr. Hood and Little to develop data for the enterprise budgets. Dr. Gu oversees the budgets and expenditures of the grower cooperators. She is responsible for developing outcome measurement activities and conducting those activities.

 

BiDr. Guihong Bi is a co-PI, and hires and supervises the postdoctoral scientist. She develops protocols and manages the cut flower crops at Crystal Springs, as well as coordinates their production at grower cooperator sites. She is responsible for environmental data collection and management. She participates in preparation of extension and research manuscripts. She presents data at scientific meetings.

 

HoodDr. Ken Hood is a co-PI and serves on the committee of the agricultural economics graduate student with Dr. Little. He works with Dr. Little to develop enterprise budgets. He generates extension publications and Web content related to the project objectives. He coordinates economic and marketing activities at field days, meetings, and conferences.

 

 

HudsonPeter Hudson is our facility manager from Truck Crops Branch Station.
 
LittleDr.Randy Little is a co-PI and trains an agricultural economics graduate student. He works with Dr. Hood to develop the enterprise budgets. He interviews grower cooperators and gathers appropriate information for generation of budgets.
 
CervenVasile Cerven is working as a Postdoc in the NRI Project.
