Mississippi Forages

Caucasian Bluestem (Bothricloa caucasica)

Plant Characteristics: Perennial with fine stems and very leafy. Seed is characterized by a pink open panicle.

Establishment: Drought tolerant and adapted to the northwestern part of the state. Well-adapted to loam and clay soils. Caucasian bigbluestem can be planted in May at a rate of 2 to 3 lb/ac.

Fertilization:

Grazing/Hay Management: It could be used for hay or pasture production. Forage production occurs from late May to August and yields range from to tons/ac. Heavy stocking rate is recommended in early summer when forage quality is high.
