Corn in Mississippi

What is causing silvery-colored areas on the leaves?

The cool night time temperatures and sunny days during the fourth week of May have promoted a condition on top corn leaves called sunscald. Sunscald occurs as irregular silvery areas on the upper side of a leaf, particularly on sections of young leaves oriented parallel to the soil surface. It also often occurs on leaves with broken or damaged midribs. Sunscald will most likely occur on corn 12-30 inches tall.

This is a cosmetic injury and should not result in any yield reduction.
