Topic: This year two hardwood tree varieties Saw Tooth Oak and Nuttal Oak will be given away FREE to the public (2 seedlings of each species per household). This is a first come first serve basis. Our office is located in the Felix Long Annex across from First United Methodist Church. Trees are being provided by the Oktibbeha County Soil and Water Conservation District.

This program is designed to give volunteers 40 hours of detailed training by professors and specialists at Mississippi State University. Our Master Gardener Volunteers are a great asset to Starkville and Oktibbeha County. They have worked with many horticulture projects in the community such as landscaping Heritage Museum and the Oktibbeha County Extension building. Their current project will be landscaping of the Oktibbeha County Court Annex. They help man a Volunteer Help Line to answer horticulture questions during the spring and summer months. The private applicator training is for farmers who must be certified to purchase and use restricted use products which are defined as pesticides which could cause harm to humans or to the environment unless it is applied by a certified applicator that has the knowledge to use these pesticides safely and effectively.
The training will include: pest and pest control, calculating dilations, site size, application equipment, calibration, Laws and regulations, worker protection standard, federal recordkeeping, minimizing spray drift, and labels and labeling.
The Mississippi State University Extension Service provides educational opportunities to the public on an equal opportunity basis and will make every reasonable effort to accommodate individuals with disabilities that would interfere with your opportunity to participate in this program contact the county Extension agent within seven (7) days before the date of the program.
It will be conducted by Dr. Dennis Reginelli, Co. Director of Noxubee Co. /Agronomy Area Agent. The class takes about two hours to complete. There is a $10.00 per person charge. Please bring a check or money order made out to MSU-CMREC. Call 323-5916 to register.
