4-H Interior Design Contest

Interior Design is a "unique blend of art and science. Interior decorating is the embellishment of interior finishes and the selection and arrangement of fabrics and furnishings" according to Beginnings of Interior Environment by Phyllis sloan Allen, Lynn M. Jones and Miriam F. Stimpson.

Interior designers are trained professionals in space planning for public and private facilities. They must have an understanding of the following: building codes, flammability ratings, and accessibility.

The Interior Design project will guide a 4-H member to career opportunities. 4-H members will learn and apply principles and elements of design. They will learn to recognize the variety and quality of products relating to Interior Design. 4-H members will experience the satisfaction of a home that expresses personal creativity and family life styles.

Competition for juniors will take place in June at each district project achievement day. Seniors will compete at Club Congress in June.

Who is eligible? Any youth between the ages of 8-18 as of January 1st of the current year are eligible for the contest. Some counties may allow under 8 to compete at the county level. Check with your local 4-H program.
