Community Pride

Procedures

Participating in the Community Pride program is a relatively simple process.

Create ideas

Project ideas range from traditional environmental projects to the very innovative and atypical ventures. For example, landscaping projects are common, environmentally enhancing ideas that mutually benefit the youth participants and the community. Yet, an arts project depicting an environmental scene on a wall mural at school builds environmental awareness as well. Project ideas are unlimited.

Once a project idea has been generated, it is beneficial to gain community support before submitting a grant proposal. By indicating this pledged support, funding opportunities will be greater. Support should be gained from the local 4-H Youth Agent, as well as community leaders, businesses, and volunteers. Support can be defined in numerous ways with the most obvious being contributions of time, donated materials, additional funds, and publicity.

Complete Proposal

Once the project idea has been fully developed, complete a Community Pride Grant packet. View and print a PDF Community Pride Grant Application. Proposals are accepted semi-annually by March 1 and November 1. Two signatures are required:

  • project leader
  • county Extension Agent

Report Progress

If the project is funded, immediately start keeping detailed and accurate records in order to submit an annual progress report. Community Pride Progress Reports are required to be submitted September 1 following the date of funding. View and print a PDF Community Pride Progress Report. Submitting a progress report makes a group eligible for a guaranteed award signifying "a job well done."

Reinvest

After monetarily rewarding youth for their hard work, many groups choose to reinvest a portion of their award into their project to continue making environmental progress in the community.
