UNDEFEATED
CHAMPIONS!

WESTERN NATIONAL
JUNIOR ROUND-UP

The Western National 4-H Roundup (www.westernnational4hroundup.org)
provides 4-H’ers with opportunities to meet fellow 4-H’ers from across the United States, participate in educational and social workshops, continue with the development of their leadeship and citizenship skills, and share personal experiences with others attending the competitions.  While attending this competition, Mississippi 4-H’ers continue to experience and foster a greater personal growth and learn about career ideas in the fields of business, agriculture, science, industry, education and the arts.

Mississippi 4-H’ers and their 4-H Youth Agents travel to Denver on a Mississippi State University bus.  While in Denver, the 4-H’ers and those attending the trip have opportunities to take several tours provided by the Western National 4-H Roundup and experience what Denver has to offer.

In addition to making new friends and continuing the development of their life-skills, 4-H’ers compete in a variety of national contests, including:

  • Horse Bowl Contest
  • Horse Individual Demonstrations Contest
  • Horse Team Demonstrations Contest
  • Horse Hippology Contest
  • Horse Judging Contest
  • Horse Public Speaking Contest
  • Public Speaking Contest
  • Livestock Judging Contest
  • Meats Judging Contest
  • Consumer Decision Contest

There are several highlights of the trip that make it a memorable experience.  One highlight is the Banquet, when all of the states are introduced and each state’s flag is brought into the room by a 4-H’er.  State photos are taken and a motivational speaker provides encouragement to those in attendance.  A photo of the 2008 Mississippi delegation will be made available soon.
Of course, the numerous awards breakfasts are when the results of the contests are revealed and prizes are given to the winners.  We had numerous 4-H’ers that represented Mississippi proudly and had great success.  Here is a summary of how our 4-H’ers faired at the 2008 Western National 4-H Roundup.
